Oliver at 3 Years

Nap Time

Breed: Labrador Retriever/Australian Cattle Dog/GreyhoundWeight: 47 pounds
Gender: Male
Favorite Food: Oliver loves pizza. He stayed with some friends, all single college boys, for 3 months while we had him quarantined to come to Hawaii and got a LOT of pizza. Sigh! Oliver has a problem keeping weight on so he is allowed extra treats. He was not a fan of dog food after his stay at Pizza House but will eat Flint River Ranch. I was so happy to find such a healthy choice for him and one that he will eat.
Favorite Place to Sleep: My dogs sleep with me because they monitor my health. It gets crowded sometimes as the cats think they need to sleep with us too.
Story: Oliver is a service dog for my diabetes. He monitors my blood sugar changes and warns me if it is dropping fast, too low, or too high. He has awakened me out of a dead sleep when my blood sugar was 30! I would have gone into a coma if I didn't have him. He saves my life everyday. I adopted him when he was 9 weeks old. He was a rescue and immediately started waking me at 4:30 a.m. every morning. I was mad at first because I wanted him to wait to pee until later. However, soon I started checking my sugar "as long as I was up" and realized he was waking me because I was spiking at 4:30 each morning. Wow! This dog has potential! So we trained him to meet all service dog requirements and put him into service at about a year old.

Breed: Dachshund/Jack Russell TerrierWeight: 21 pounds
Gender: Male
Favorite Food: Both dogs love the Flint River Ranch baked kibble for puppies and adult dogs. They also developed a fine taste for sushi in Hawaii. They caught their own crabs and fish when we went to the ocean. They absolutely love fresh fish.
Favorite Activities: Because we live in California and the yards are small, we take the dogs out for a run daily. There are a lot of jackrabbits in fields here and they love to chase them. Also, we live near water so they swim a lot. They love all the sun we have here and seem to have a great life.
Story: He was a rescue we got when we lived in Hawaii last year. They call them poi dogs, mutts as we call them, and we got him at 7 weeks. We have trained him to be a PTSD service dog. He meets all requirements... lies over my chest when I am having a panic attack. The weight of a dog across your heart has been proven to somehow re-track your thinking and have a calming effect thus avoiding the attack. My medication needs are 1/3 of what they were before Reggie. He also provides a distraction when I am in a situation that sets off my PTSD—very talented dog. These dogs travel everywhere with us as per the ADA and state laws in California. They go to restaurants, movies, grocery stores, schools, etc. More people know their names than mine!

Breed: Domestic Shorthair CatWeight: 11 pounds
Gender: Male
Favorite Activities: He likes to chase any bug even if its a mosquito. When he watches TV, he chases things on the screen. He will chase my cursor on my computer when I am typing.
Mochi is a yowler. He gets lost if he is 3 feet from you, so he cries. You have to tell him, "Here we are," and he seems so relieved to have been "rescued." He is the loudest purrer I have ever heard. He is always happy.

Breed: Domestic Shorthair CatWeight: 7 pounds
Gender: Female
Favorite Food: Both cats enjoy their Flint River Ranch kibble but sneak the dog food whenever they can. If you have cake and happen to leave your plate or drop a piece, they run over and eat it. Why, I have no idea, but these cats beg for sweets.
Special Skills or Responsibilities: They both wash their hands after they use the litter box. They use the toilet and swirl their "hands" in the bowl and then lick them dry. I know its gross, but better than nasty cat litter nails! If no toilet is available they will get in the sink, the tub, or the dogs' extra water that is outside. They are very clean kitties.
