QUALITY INGREDIENTS
The most important part of a good meal is quality ingredients. Quality ingredients provide the nutrition necessary for your pet's health and well-being, and help your pet holistically maintain a strong immune system, and a happy life!

All of our recipes are made from high-quality ingredients. We do not use meat by-products, grain by-products, color additives, or synthetic preservatives. The premium quality ingredients we use, coupled with our state-of-the-art preparation and slow oven-baking of our Pinto Canyon pet food recipes sets us apart from other pet food companies.

NATURALLY PRESERVED
Our food is naturally preserved with a combination of mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). Rosemary prevents the breakdown of fats and oils in foods and is also a powerful antioxidant! No harmful chemicals, such as BHA, ethoxyquin, or BHT are ever used.

MEAT
All of our meat is certified by the CFIA or USDA. Our meat is hormone-free, antibiotic-free, non-GMO, and, of course, is never 4D or denatured meat.

Chicken: We use chicken that is certified hormone and antibiotic free. Like all of our ingredients, we pay a premium price for the very best available. Chicken meat provides essential amino and fatty acids.

Lamb: Lamb is free-range, grass-fed, hormone-free, and antibiotic-free.

Fish: Fish is a prime source of a complete protein and includes all of the essential amino acids. It is rich in unsaturated fats (Omega-3 fatty acids), Vitamins A, K, and E, and also contains iodine, calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, copper, and fluoride.

We preserve our fish with natural tocopherols. We never use synthetic preservatives, such as ethoxyquin.

All fish used in our recipes are analyzed, inspected, and accredited to meet all government regulations.

Our salmon is wild and from the Pacific. Our herring meal is from Canada; herring is found particularly in shallow, temperate waters of the North Pacific and the North Atlantic oceans, including the Baltic Sea, as well as off the west coast of South America. Herring contains high amounts of high quality protein and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Herring meal is very digestible and promotes healthy skin and coat.

NUTRIENTS
Our vitamins and minerals are from the USA! Many pet food companies use supplements from China, but still claim, "No ingredients from China"! They can make this claim because vitamins and minerals are not considered an "ingredient"! Nothing in Pinto Canyon pet food is from China—we think this is important because of the history of tainted supplements from China. We have nothing to hide!

Vitamins and Minerals: Our minerals are chelated, which means that they are bonded with amino acids, the constituents of protein. A chelated mineral is in a state that allows easy passage through the intestinal wall into the blood stream, which results in increased metabolic absorption of that mineral. Our products are preserved with a combination of mixed tocopherols (vitamin E) and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). No harmful chemicals are used.

Flax: The different proteins in flax provide a high proportion base of unsaturated, essential fatty acids and dietary fiber. Flax is recognized for its potential in reducing the risk of some chronic diseases as well as improving the thickness and sheen of the hair and coat. It provides a great benefit to oven-baked food by resisting oxidation from the baking process and improving product shelf life.

Lecithin: Lecithin protects cells from damage caused by oxidation. Lecithin is largely composed of choline, with linoleic acid and inositol.

Copper and Iron: A deficiency of iron causes nutritional anemia. A small amount of copper will improve the body's use of iron.

Proteins: Proteins are organic chemical compounds and a major component of the structure of all living organisms. Protein functions to build and repair body structure. A good pet food should contain highly digestible protein sources that provide the essential amino acids in adequate amounts. Digestible food protein from several sources is more desirable than protein from only one source.

Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates serve primarily as an energy source while giving bulk to the diet. Plant material is made up of a high percentage of carbohydrates.

Fats: Fats are complex molecules that are broken down by the digestive system into smaller molecules known as fatty acids. Fat is a concentrated source of energy and works toward making hormones, skin and coat oils, membranes, and parts of body cells. Fats also aid in the transport of nutrients, regulate stomach emptying, and increase palatability of foods.

Essential Fatty Acids: α-Linolenic Acid (Omega-3) and Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) are important for the synthesis of hormones and for healthy skin.

GRAIN
Whole grains are a good source of fiber, and contain important nutrients such as selenium, potassium and magnesium. Recent studies comparing the genomes of wolves and dogs found that a big difference is dogs' ability to easily digest starch, such as grain.

Our grains are fully tested to ensure the very best quality and absence of mycotoxins.

We do not use genetically modified (GMO) grains.

Wheat: Wheat is one of the most nutritionally balanced cereal grains. It is an easy-to-digest source of carbohydrates, fiber, and energy. A combination of grains, like a combination of meats, is better than just one source. You'll never find low-quality fillers like wood fiber, corn, corn cobs, peanut hulls, cottonseed, straw, soy beans, or citrus pulp in Pinto Canyon products.

Millet: Millet is a gluten-free grain with a protein content that is comparable to that of wheat. Millets are rich in B vitamins (especially niacin, B6 and folic acid), calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and zinc.

Rice: Brown rice is used for its added nutritional value and fiber.
